The invention provides techniques for performing predistortion for a power amplifier in order to compensate for amplifier nonlinearities. The cost function to determine the performance includes constellation distortion as well as spectral regrowth. Quasi-optimum techniques are described which are simple to implement and introduce negligible degradation relative to the optimum approach. Approximation approaches allow trade offs between memory, complexity, and performance. Finally, adaptive algorithms are to allow adaptation to changing signal and power amplifier characteristics.
|
