A differential mechanism (10) has two rotatable output cam members (16, 17) each connectable with a respective output shaft (16A, 17A), each said cam member having a single annular cam surface (22, 23) of undulating wave form comprising pairs of mutually inclined surfaces (24, 25, 26, 27). A plurality of cam followers (28) slideably supported by an input housing (11) of the differential have end surfaces (29, 30, 32, 33) engaging the cam surfaces of the output cam members so that relative contra rotation of said output cam members causes the cam followers to slide axially thus moving the followers (28) circumferentially relative to the output cam members (16, 17). Each of the output shafts 16A, 17A) is located aginst axially outward movement relative to its respective output cam member (16, 17) by a retainer (16B, 17B) which engages formations (16C, 17, 16D, 17D) on the output cam member and associated output shaft. In a preferred form the retainers each comprise a clip (16B, 17B) which engages a slot (16,. 17C) in the output cam member and a groove (16D, 17D) in the associated output shaft. The clips maybe into the slots and grooves via apertures 11A and 11B in the differential housing. |
