PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately judge the load quantity to determine the appropriate water supply level even with initial dispersion in the tension of a V-belt and the change of strength caused by aging degradation. SOLUTION: When special key operation is performed in the inside empty state 6f a washing spinning tub (S1), the no-water left state is confirmed by a water level sensor (S3). A motor is driven for a short time to rotate a pulsator, and motor pulses during the inertia rotation are counted (S4). In the case of the counted value W0 being 79<W0<196, the reference value to each load quantity (water level) is computed from a specified calculation expression on the basis of W0 (S7). The calculation expression is experimentally obtained in advance so that the inclination of a curve composed including the reference value becomes steeper in proportion to the increase of the value W0. Upon confirming that there is no operational error (S8), the computed reference value is stored in an EEPROM (S9) and used as reference data for subsequent load quantity judgment. The reference value can thereby be appropriately determined according to the state of a washing machine at that moment, so that the load quantity can be accurately judged.
