PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a variant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae which allows synthesizing a desired sulfur-containing amino acid (e.g. cystathionine, homocysteine, methionine, and S-adenosylmethionine) at a high concentration. SOLUTION: This variant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is obtained by transducing each of a plasmid prepared for destroying structural gene CYS3 of cystathionineγ-lyase and a plasmid prepared for destroying structural gene CYS4 of cystathionineβ-synthase into a wild type of S. cerevisiae, and accumulates cystathionine or homocysteine. |
