PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device particularly improving cleaning performance in the beginning of starting operation. SOLUTION: In this exhaust emission control device 1 of series constitution, arranging an HC adsorption part 10 in the upstream and a three-way catalytic converter part 20 in the downstream, a sectional area of the three-way catalytic converter part 20 set up in the downstream is set smaller than a sectional area of the HC adsorption material part 10 set up in the upstream.
