PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for drying garbage which is improved in the discharge efficiency of garbage and safety. SOLUTION: In an apparatus having treatment tanks 4, 4A, 4B, a heating means (heater 6), a discharge opening 70, a first opening/closing means (discharging door 72), a second opening/closing means (shutter mechanism 94, shutter plate 104), and agitation means (scrapers 18, 18A, 18B, or the like), the operation of the agitation means is stopped with the first opening/closing means when it is opened, the agitation means is actuated only when the discharge opening is shielded by the second opening/closing means, and a narrow opening part (discharge passage 130) is formed, so that the discharge of garbage by agitation is automated and made efficient to improve the safety of garbage discharge.
