PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize image data in an image data generating part in an image processing apparatus like a laser beam printer. SOLUTION: A image data generating part for forming image data to output the same, and an image forming part 2 for driving light emitting elements on the basis of the image data to draw an image by laser beam, are provided. The image forming part 2 has a control part 15 for detecting the quantity of laser beam to report the detection result to the image data generating part 1, and the image data generating part 1 has a control part 20 for making the image data variable according to the reported result from the control part 15. The control part 15 averages the quantity-of-light detection results in a plurality of sub-scanning lines and can report the quantity-of-light average value to the control part 20. The control part 15 may average the quantity-of- light detection results in the sub-scanning lines being an integral multiple of the number-of-line data set from the control part 20.
