PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer capable of introducing hydroxy groups thereinto in a short time without leaving organic volatiles or ashes in the polymer and to produce the polymer obtained by the method for production. SOLUTION: A polymer having substituent groups is brought into contact with water at a high temperature under a high pressure to substitute the substituent groups with the hydroxy groups.
