PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sliver yarn-like yarn of a carbon nanofiber, having substantially no twist, and formed out of the carbon nanofiber, and further to provide a method for producing the yarn. SOLUTION: This sliver yarn-like yarn of the carbon nanofiber comprises the carbon nanofiber having 3-200 nm average outer diameter and has substantially no twist. The method for producing the sliver yarn-like yarn of the carbon nanofiber comprises surrounding a reaction gas stream including the carbon nanofiber formed in a reaction zone, with a guiding gas, and imparting rotary power to the carbon nanofiber in the gas stream when taking out the carbon nanofiber to the outside of the system so as to be narrowed.
