Disclosed is a method for determining the fertility of mammals, in particular of humans, wherein a body or organ fluid is taken from a mammal, the leptin content is determined in this body or organ fluid, and the determined leptin content is compared with a reference value so as to determine the fertility, the use of leptin for determining the fertility of mammals, as well as a kit for carrying out this method.
