PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a soluble polyimide soluble in various kinds of organic solvents, having excellent heat resistance and mechanical properties. SOLUTION: This soluble polyimide is obtained from an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and a diamine. The diamine component is composed of diaminodiphenyl sulfone and an aromatic diamine. The molar ratio of diaminodiphenyl sulfone to the aromatic diamine is 20:80 to 95:5.
