PRODUCTION OF VINYL CHLORIDE POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a vinyl chloride polymer having little fish-eye defects and excellent quality and capable of attaining high washing effect while keeping the polymerization reactor in closed state without essentially opening the reactor even in a large-sized polymerization reactor having an inner volume of >=40 m3 and to remarkably improve the productivity owing to the water-washing effect attainable without opening the polymerization reactor. SOLUTION: A vinyl chloride polymer is produced by repeating a series of production steps comprising the charge of vinyl chloride monomer or a mixture of vinyl chloride monomer and a copolymerizable monomer into a polymerization reactor, the polymerization of the monomers, the extraction of the polymer slurry from the reactor after the polymerization reaction and the washing of the reactor with water. A polymerization reactor having an inner volume of >=40 m3 is used as the reactor and the reactor is washed with water using a reciprocating cylinder washing apparatus closely attached to the top of the reactor and having a vertically movable nozzle.
