PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molded surface fastener and a method for manufacturing it in which flexibility is increased even in a base sheet of the same material and the same thickness and the adhesive strength is increased, for instance, when an adhesive agent or a pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to the back surface of the base sheet. SOLUTION: A molded surface fastener 4 is composed of a flat base sheet 4b which is continuously and integrally formed of a thermoplastic synthetic resin and has many engaging elements 4a on its surface. The back surface of the base sheet 4b in a half-melted state upon molding is pressed by a pressing roll 2' having many microscopic protrusions 2a' so that very small grooves 4c are formed on the back surface of the base sheet 4b.
