The suspension mechanism is for aprons used by medical personnel during radiography examination and treatment. It extensible rope (3) with weight counterbalancing mechanism (3), attached via a head stirrup (9) to the shoulder area of the apron (1), thus relieving the wearer of the weight of the latter. The mechanism can comprise a spring-loaded winch drum, onto which the rope is wound, the spring being of the spiral type with ends attached to the winch spindle and the drum periphery. The prestressing of the spring and thus the exerted counterbalancing force can be adjustable.
