PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminating device capable of saving a space around a lamp and also provided with a reflecting plate with less trouble in terms of an electrode and heat. SOLUTION: The illuminating device is constituted of a tubular light source lamp for partly illuminating an original surface in a one-dimensional direction and the reflecting plate which is arranged around the light source lamp, the inner surface of the reflecting plate is curved to a nearly cylindrical shape, and also, the longitudinal direction of the light source lamp is nearly parallel to the slit longitudinal direction of an opening part, and the inside diameter of the reflecting plate and the slit width of the opening satisfy the following conditions; 1.20<=R/r<=1.33 and 0.38<=W/r<=0.425, provided that r denotes the outside diameter of the light source lamp, R denotes the inside diameter of the reflecting plate and W denotes the slit width of the opening part.
