PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an obstract ranging over from the vicinity up to a distance position of a vehicle, and to accurately measure a distance up to the obstruction. SOLUTION: This unit is provided with an FMCW radar 2 for detecting a target existing in a middle distance to measure a distance from the target, and an ultrasonic radar 1 for detecting a target existing in a close distance to measure a distance from the target. An outside temperature is measured by a thermosensor 3, and a sound velocity value is corrected by an ultrasonic radar measurement correcting means 4 to secure precision for the ultrasonic radar 1. The radar 1 and the FMCW radar 2 are switchedly used while switched by a target detecting means to find the distance upto the target and the velocity of the target ranging over from the close distance upto the middle distance.
