PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating member in a device for detecting the liquid amount in a tank capable of increasing floating up speed and preventing being caught with a cylinder. SOLUTION: The floating member 5 is set within the cylinder communicating with the inside and the outside of the tank for storing liquid, and moved up and down according to a change in liquid amount within the tank, and the amount of liquid within the tank is detected in accordance with the position moved up and down. The floating member 5 is formed so that a metacenter B is located in the upper part than the center A of gravity on a center axis L. The floating member 5 is hardly inclined to the cylinder and straightly floats up within the cylinder.
