PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image communication capable of reducing the cost of communication to a center. SOLUTION: An IFAX 1 is installed inside a stock company A. A PC 4 is installed for a client B and an IFAX 5 is installed in a branch C. The IFAX 1 exchanges the electronic mail of image information with the PC 4 and the IFAX 5 through a LAN 2 and the Internet 3. On the other hand, the IFAX 1 is connected to a PSTN 6. The IFAX 1 exchanges facsimile data with a G3FAX 7 through the PSTN 6. The IFAX 1 exchanges image information with the PC 4, IFAX 5 and G3FAX 7 and simultaneously transmits the electronic mail of the same image information through the Internet 3 to a host computer 9 installed in a center 8.
