PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lowering of read output even when a magnetic pole layer is trimmed from the side of a face opposite to a magnetic recording medium by means of a focused ion beam working. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistance effect type head includes the read magnetic gap layers 2a and 2b which are formed between the 1st and 2nd magnetic shielding layers 1 and 5 and hold a magnetoresistance effect element 3' between them. An inductive head includes a coil and a write magnetic gap layer 7 which are formed between the 1st and 2nd magnetic pole layers 6 and 8. A recess part 9 is formed by a focused ion beam working to decide the lengths of both layers 6 and 8 to be set in the track width direction on a surface opposite to a magnetic recording medium. The element 3' is not irradiated by any kind of focused ion beam and accordingly never damaged.
