PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a defect of a conventional non-built-in digital video device that a viewer has to confirm a broadcast format of the television receiver connected to the digital video device. SOLUTION: The non-built-in digital video device of this invention that receives a digital broadcast program broadcast in a plurality of formats and outputs a video signal, is provided with a video signal selection means that selects the received video signal with a format or the video signal whose format is converted into a specific format and outputs the selected signal, and a selection control means that controls the video signal selection means on the basis of a deflection frequency of the television receiver receiving the selected and outputted video signal. Thus, the video device automatically discriminates the provision of the television receiver for multi-format and can output the video signal with an optimum format.
