PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cooling system which can be operated in safety while monitoring the quantity of filled refrigerant automatically. SOLUTION: In the system for cooling an apparatus having high heat generation (heat load) using a vapor cycle, first heat transfer medium, i.e., refrigerant gas, compressed through a compressor 3 is cooled by second heat transfer medium in a first heat exchanger 1 to produce two-phase fluid refrigerant of gas and liquid. Temperature and pressure of the refrigerant are detected by a temperature sensor 22 and a pressure sensor 23 and a controller 13 calculates a sub- cool quantity from detection signals. Subsequently, the quantity of filled refrigerant is calculated from the sub-cool quantity and checked automatically against a safety operation range in order to ensure safety operation.
