PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for recording medium information for easily permitting sorting or skip reproducing for every date of photographing when recording one or plural kinds of medium information on a recording medium. SOLUTION: When inputting one or plural kinds of medium information, compressing the inputted medium information and recording the compressed medium information on the recording medium as a prescribed file under a prescribed directory, the name of the directory and the name of the file are based on a DCF standard and characters including the numerals of the date recorded as the free characters of the DCF directory name and characters including the numerals of the date recorded as the free characters of the DCF file name are respectively automatically selected.
