PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and an image forming method capable of deciding the optimum value of a density control factor needed for adjusting the image density of a toner image to targe density more highly accurately and moreover efficiently. SOLUTION: Tow processing modes different with each other are preliminarily prepared in this device. In a first processing mode, the provisional value of the optimun developing bias is calculated by changing a developing bias in a wide range (the whole of the variable area of the developing bias) and, moreover, the optimum developing bias is decided while changing the developing bias in a narrow range (roughly one - third of the variable area) based on the provisional value. In the second processing mode, the optimum developing bias is decided while changing the developing bias in the narrow range (roughly one - third of the variable area) including the last optimum developing bias. Then, the most suitable processing mode is selectively executed in accordance with the operating state of the device and the optimum developing bias is decided. |
