PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problem that a conventional range finder can not be mounted on an inexpensive popular type camera since the use of a microcomputer capable of high-speed processing increases the cost to improve the increase in the time lag of a shutter because of a time needed for arithmetic processing although multipoint range-finding improves the range finding precision and also it was troublesome to manually select a range-finding point on the conventional range finder. SOLUTION: This invented range finder mounted on a camera finds and employs the ranges of range-finding points arranged on a photographic picture plane by a control part 1 in the decreasing order of the presence probability of a main subject at the range-finding points or their groups without using any expensive hardware. This range finder takes focal length (field angle) into account and is adaptive to a wide-angle side photography scene including scenery as its background and a telephone-side portrait of a person. Consequently, the time lag of range-finding operation is much shorter than that of a case wherein range-finding operation is carried out for all range-finding points and selection is carried out. |
