PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type fixing device capable of performing stable fixing operation. SOLUTION: This device has a rotating body 120 which is made to press- contact with a fixing belt 110 to be heated, and a backup roller 130 which supports the belt 110 at a press-contact part between the belt 110 and the rotating body 120 from the inside and is longer than the width of the belt 110, and recording material S where a toner image is formed is made to pass through the press-contact part between the belt 110 and the rotating body 120 so as to fix the toner image. A high grip member G is fixed at a part directly press- contacting with the rotating body on the backup roller and also it is fixed on the back surface of the fixing belt or the surface of the backup roller coming in contact with the back surface of the fixing belt. The rugged pattern of the surface of the member G is inclined to the width direction of the fixing belt. The rugged pattern is axially symmetric with respect to the center line in the width direction of the fixing belt.
