PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a heavily swelling lower neutron absorber from being damaged by shock, in the case of a control rod for a pressurized water reactor. SOLUTION: This control rod 30 has a cladding tube 31 with both ends closed by an upper end plug and a lower end plug 32, respectively, and an upper neutron absorber 37 and a lower neutron absorber 35 housed in the cladding tube 31. It is further equipped with a sleeve 33 standing in the cladding tube 31, surrounding the lower absorber 35, and supporting the upper absorber 37. A coil spring 38 is mounted in a space 39 so that it can absorb relative displacement between an upper lid 36 of the sleeve 33 and the lower absorber 35.
