PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve a large amount of music data copied and recorded in a built-in recording medium from CDs. SOLUTION: A music server 50 can record a large amount of music data reproduced from the CDs in a built-in HDD. In the case of recording the music data, the TOC information of the CD is read, recorded in the HDD and also sent to a personal computer 300 through a connection line 301. A CD album information database is offered to the computer 300 from a CD-ROM 310. The computer 300 retrieves which CD of the database on the CD-ROM 310 the CD corresponds to on the basis of the total play time of the sent TOC information and the time information of each track and sends retrieval results to the server 50. The server 50 records the retrieval results in the HDD while associating the retrieval results with the TOC information by a management database, and can display CD album information and select a music CD to be reproduced on the basis of the CD album information.
