PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for inhibiting the growth of fog in a film. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic element includes at least one silver bromoiodide emulsion layer. The silver bromoiodide emulsion has >=4 mol% average iodide content and has been chemically sensitized with a urea compound of formula I (where X, R1-R4 and A1-A4 are each a prescribed group).
