The inventive installation comprises the following: a diffusion volume (14) which is connected to a volume to be treated (10) at the entrance (16, 18) and exit (20), in such a way as to define a closed circuit between the diffusion volume and the volume to be treated; means (28, 36, 38) for diffusing a volatile disinfecting and decontaminating agent; means (26) for adjusting the load of the volatile agent and the temperature and/or humidity conditions which allow the volatile agent to be diffused in the form of a dry vapour; and circulation means (30, 32) which can circulate the surrounding atmosphere between the volume to be treated and the diffusion volume. Means (42, 44, 46) for forcibly extracting the atmosphere from the volume to be treated for disinfecting purposes are also provided.
