The control system consists of a gear lever which can be moved through a gate to give automatic and manual control positions - a first stable position (1) for forward drive, and two unstable positions (2, 3). The first unstable position provides for moving away in automatic and manual modes and for changing to lower gears in manual mode, while the second unstable position (3) is used solely for changing to higher gears in the manual mode. The first and second unstable positions are engaged by moving the gear lever forwards and backwards respectively. The vehicle engine can be started only when the gear lever is moved to a second, neutral stable position (4) located to the right of the first stable position, and a third stable position (6) for reverse gear is reached by moving the gear lever backwards from neutral. A variant has a fourth stable position for parking, located in front of the third stable position. |
