PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a wavelength characteristic of a gain or an output even to a change of environmental temperatures, an input signal light level, and the like in a wavelength multiplex light transmitting optical fiber amplifier. SOLUTION: This embodiment comprises an amplifying optical fiber (EDF) for light-amplifying input signal lights and outputting amplification signal lights; an excitation light source for outputting excited lights; and an optical multiplexer for multiplexing or demultiplexing the signal lights and excited lights which are incident on the EDF, and further comprises a temperature control means for maintaining the EDF at a predetermined temperature. The temperature control means is constituted by a bobbin on which the amplifying optical fiber; a temperature sensor; a temperature control element for heating and cooling the bobbin; and a temperature control circuit for controlling temperatures for the temperature control element, based on the detected temperatures. The EDF is controlled in its temperature so that the EDF is maintained at a predetermined temperature, or an output level (or a gain) of specified signal lights out of wavelength multiple signal lights is set to be a predetermined value, or the output level (or the gain) of each signal light is leveled. |
