PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reader having a one-dimensional blazed diffraction grating that prevents occurrence of vignette in luminous flux by a slit in spite of mechanism precision comparable to that of the conventional reader. SOLUTION: The color image reader is provided with a light receiving means that consists of a plurality of line sensors placed on a same board, a color separation means consisting of a one-dimensional blazed diffraction grating that separates an incident luminous flux into a plurality of colored lights, an image forming optical system that forms the color image onto the light receiving means via the color separation means, a means that optically and relatively moves the color image and the light receiving means in the subscanning direction, and a slit configured integrally with the one-dimensional blazed diffraction grating and having an opening in the subscanning direction.
