PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device realizing more accurate temperature measurement with simple constitution while preventing an image defect caused by contact scratch and the deterioration of measuring accuracy or an image defect caused by the adhesion of toner. SOLUTION: This fixing device is provided with a pair of fixing rotating bodies on whose surfaces a paper passing area where a recording sheet comes in contact and a paper non-passing area where the recording sheet does not come in contact exist, at least either of which is provided with a heating means heating by the specified quantity of heat inside and which rotate while press- contacting with each other, a temperature measuring means having a heat sensitive part and measuring the temperature of the fixing rotating body while bringing the heat sensitive part into contact with the surface of the fixing rotating body, and a control means controlling the quantity of heat of a heat generating means based on the temperature of the fixing rotating body measured by the temperature measuring means. In the device, the heat sensitive part comes in contact with the fixing rotating body extending over the paper passing area and the paper non-passing area.
