The instrument panel for a motor vehicle has an air bag (11,15) in a housing under the panel. A flap (15) covers the bag and has an integral structural layer (3) of rigid plastics covered by upholstery (5) having a layer of foam (54b). the layers are parallel and the flap is defined by a line of weakness. A reinforcement (19) extends along the flap surface. A second reinforcement (21) reinforces the instrument panel adjacent to the flap.
