PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting furnace capable of surely melting thrown-in wastes while preventing an increase in running cost, and capable of improving temperature distribution in melting and increasing melting speed. SOLUTION: This melting furnace has an electroconductive container and coils for heating the container by high-frequency induction heating. The container has a tapered bottom part and the coils are installed in positions confronting the tapered bottom part of the container. A furnace wall provided outside the container has a portion corresponding to the external shape of the bottom part. The container has a skirt part on the periphery of the bottom part.
