PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor, in which the output characteristic will not become unstable, even if water content attaches on the insides of a pair of base electrode layers. SOLUTION: End portions of a resistor 13 on an insulating substrate 11 are positioned inside a pair of base electrode layers 14 on the upper surface of the substrate 11 and stretched outward, thereby forming stretched parts 15. Plating layers 16 are formed on the surfaces of the stretched parts 15 of the resistor 13 and the surfaces of the base electrode layers 14.
