Introducing granular solids into a pressure vessel having a pressure of at least 2 bar comprises initially passing the solids to a first container (10) and then into a second container (20) connected to it before it enters the pressure vessel. Introducing granular solids into a pressure vessel having a pressure of at least 2 bar comprises initially passing the solids to a first container (10) and then into a second container (20) connected to it before it enters the pressure vessel. The containers each have a run-off channel (11, 21) and a slider (2, 3) for closing the channels. The run-off ends of the channels are located 20-400 mm above the slider in the closing position. The slider forms the base of a chamber partially filled with solids so that the chamber is gas-tight with the run-off channel but not gas-tight with the slider. The slider supports a solid charge in the closing position and consists of a vertical solids column which is 1 m high in the run-off channel and in the container. In the closing position, barrier gas is externally fed into the chamber and the solids column. Preferred Features: The slider and part of the chamber are located in a slider housing which has a solids feed for the container underneath. The solids charge has a height of at least 5 mm in the chamber. The pressure in the pressure vessel is 3-20 bar. The gas in the pressure vessel contains at least 50 vol.% hydrogen.
