The invention relates to the damping unit of a rotary tool assembly that is used for cutting, especially for metal-cutting. The aim of the invention is to provide a tool base body that can be simply produced at low costs and that allows the individual edges (4) or cassettes (3) to be changed. Also, said damping unit should be sufficiently stable with respect to the possible torque transmission and other parameters so that it can be used to cut steel while allowing an improved damping and vibration behavior. To this end, the base body consists, in the radial direction, of a base part (1) and at least one intermediate part (2) with a damping layer (5) being interposed.
