<p>PURPOSE: Provided are a method for extracting and purifying insecticidal materials from the seeds of the neem tree(Azadirachta indica Juss), a composition containing the extracts, and a method for using the same as insecticides. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing an azadirachtin-containing extract comprises the steps of (a) contacting a clarified aqueous neem seed extract with a macroporous polymeric adsorbent which adsorbs azadirachtin, and (b) removing the azadirachtin from the macroporous polymeric adsorbent with a solvent. The macroporous polymeric adsorbent is a polymer of divinylbenzene, a copolymer of divinylbenzene/styrene, an acrylic polymer or a phenol/formaldehyde copolymer. The composition comprises an agronomically acceptable carrier and an insecticidally effective amount of the azadirachtin-containing extract obtained by the method.</p> |
