<p>A method and apparatus for marking a sheet metal workpiece (12) on a punching press. A marking tool, (100) mounted in a holder (130) on the punching press is formed either against the surface of the workpiece to form an ink mark thereon, or to a depth into the surface of the workpiece (12) to inscribe a mark therein. The workpiece (12) is displaced in its plane, while engaged by the marking tool (100), in accordance with the desired contour. The marking tool (100) is mounted either in the punch holder (130) or in a holder of the workpiece table. A support roller or ball provides counter-support on the side of the workpiece (12) opposite from the marking tool (100).</p> |
