摘要 A process for altering the surface properties of an object having a structured surface that is coated in order to alter the surface properties. A stochastic surface structure is produced and a coating is applied such that the contact angle to water and/or oil is greater than 65 deg and/or a surface energy of less than 35 J/m<2> is produced. Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the production of a self-cleaning, preferably transparent, colorless and/or clear glass whereby the glass is flamed to produce a stochastic surface structure using a reactive gas which is mixed with a precursor of an inorganic structure prior to combustion. The stochastic surface structure is optionally densified and the surface is coated with a hydrophobic and/or oleophobic coating; (ii) an object having a self-cleaning structured coating on one surface, such that the coating has a non-periodic structure as well as being colorless, glossy, transparent and/or clear.
