PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression controller and a controlling method capable of selecting data compression/non-compression in accordance with the transfer speed of a communication interface and the compression ratio of data and to provide also a printing information forming device and a recording medium recording a program. SOLUTION: Data loss caused by compression/restoration processing can be solved by judging the transfer speed of the communication interface, compressing data and sending the compressed data when the transfer speed may cause the bottleneck of the whole process or sending the non-compressed data as it is in the other case. Since the compression ratio of transmission data is previously inspected and compressed data are sent only when the compression ratio of a prescribed value and over is obtained, communication data can be compressed only when a compression effect is surely obtained. Thereby the load of peripheral equipment for receiving the compressed data and restoring the data can be reduced.
