Described are a method and an apparatus for processing video signals to be displayed on a digital display device without edge effects or artifacts at the beginning of frame intervals. Specifically, video signals consist of a plurality of pixel frames, with each of the pixel frames further consisting of a plurality of pixel lines. A typical video signal processing system includes a vertical format converter (VFC) (402) for converting signal formats in vertical direction. A typical VFC includes a memory to store 'previous' pixel lines that can be used to create a current pixel line to be displayed on a digital display device. However, at the beginning of a pixel frame, there are no 'previous' pixel lines that can be used to create a current pixel line. This causes edge effects or artifacts on the digital display device along the vertical direction at the beginning of frame intervals. The edge effect or artifact problem is solved by repeating at least one pixel line that is located on or subsequent to the beginning position in each of the frames.
|
