Histone acetyl transferase inhibition provides a target for identifying potential antiprotozoal compounds. Histone acetyl transferase inhibitors are useful as therapeutic agents against protozoal infections. A method of identifying histone acetyl transferase inhibitors compares i) the acetylatio n level from a combination of a test compound with a known histone deacetylase inhibitor to ii) a basal acetylation level.
