The invention relates to a method for determining especially the alcohol concentration in an alcohol/water mixture of fuel cells operated with said mixture, especially of direct methanol fuel cells. According to the inventiv e method, the alcohol/water mixture is transported through a heating section a t a constant flow rate. A known quantity of heat is added to the mixture, the temperature difference between the start and the end of the heating section is measured and the alcohol concentration is determined on the basis of the result of said measurement.
