The device consists of a pre-shift group, a main group, and an after-shift group, each with two shift stages, and is connected to the vehicle engine via a coupling. Blocking devices are located between pre-shift group (GV) and main group (HG), and between main group and after-shift group (GP). The blocking devices prevent shifting of the main group before shifting processes in the other groups have been completed. Each group has mechanical friction synchronization. Alternatively, pre- and after-shift groups have mechanical friction synchronization, and the main group has claw couplings.
