The head restraint is held on a seat backrest and is pivoted between two positions by a transmission device (4) against spring. The first position corresponds to a forward position, and the second position corresponds to the upright use position of the backrest. The transmission device is constructed to tip the head restraint backwards when the backrest is tilted forwards. A locking device (5) locks the restraint in upright use position, and is unlocked when the backrest is tipped forwards.
