MAGNETIC HEAD AND MAGNETIC RECORDER/REPRODUCER

A magnetic head having a long still endurance time and little wearing and a magnetic recorder/reproducer equipped with a high speed rotary drum comprising the magnetic head. The magnetic head comprises magnetic core halves (4, 8) where at least one magnetic film (2, 6) made of a soft magnetic metallic material is sandwiched by a pair of substrates (1, 3; 5, 7) and the end faces of the core halves face to each other with a magnetic gap (9) there between to form a magnetic path by the magnetic films of the magnetic core halves. At least part of the face of the substrate sliding on a magnetic tape is made of a nonmagnetic single crystal ferrite material. The crystal orientation of the ferrite material at the sliding face is {110}, and the <110> direction is generally in parallel with the sliding direction of the magnetic head with respect to the magnetic tape.
