Calibration apparatus has calibration vessels (3) filled with gas mixtures of known material and isotopic compositions mounted in a rotating drum (1) in a cylindrical or prismatic shape, on an axis (2) parallel to the infra red beam. The axes of the drum and the infra red beam are at a gap from each other which is the distance of the vessels from the drum axis.
