PURPOSE:To reduce driving electric energy and to obtain a highly reliable optical switch that can be manufactured inexpensively by switching a movable fiber which is self held by a permanent magnet by impulsive energizing. CONSTITUTION:When permanent magnets 207a, 207b provided in an optical switch have nearly equal magnetic characteristic, axial component of magnetic field Hpx, -Hpx becomes 0 in the center line C-C'. If a magnetic body 202 is in the state of A or B, the magnetic body 202 is magnetized by axial component Hpx or -Hpx, and attracted by the permanent magnet 207a or 207b and self held. Magnetic characteristic of the magnetic body 202 repeats transition of points G-B-C-D-E-F-G according to impulsive energizing to a solenoid coil 206 and accordingly repeats the states of A and B, and closing of light path to movable fiber 203 and fixed fibers 205a and 205b is performed repeatedly. Even when energizing of the solenoid coil is stopped, the state of A or B is maintained. |
